Woman hurt in house fire

ATTICA - A woman was taken to the hospital after she suffered burns to her arms and legs during a house fire late Friday morning.

Attica-Venice-Reed Fire Chief Brett Meyers said the woman had tried to throw a pillow that was on fire out of a bedroom window at 111 N. Liberty St. and suffered burns. She was transported to Mercy Willard Hospital.

Meyers said the fire ignited in the second-story bedroom just before noon, causing fire damage to the bedroom and water and smoke damage to other parts of the house.

He estimated damage between $10,000 and $15,000.

"They should be able to live in it," Meyers said.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation, he said.

According to reports from the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, Republic and Bloomville firefighters assisted at the scene.
