Bowling Green author Jean Ann Geist is to conduct a book signing 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Paper & Ink in downtown Tiffin.
She is to sign copies of her novel, "Only in the Movies," which is set in northwest Ohio. Geist spoke about the publishing process in an e-mail.
"I decided to self publish Only in the Movies, my novel of romantic intrigue set in a fictitious town along the Maumee River, after exploring the traditional publishing routes and determining there wasn't a niche for a cross-cultural romance with older protagonists. In addition, I wanted artistic control of my work, choosing to feature a watercolor by my daughter Sascha Instone, a graduate of Bowling Green State University's School of Art, for the cover," Geist said.
Laura Tolkow, a graphics designer from New York City transformed the watercolor into a book cover and laid out the interior of the book. Geist consulted an editor from New York to refine and make suggestions for the novel's content.
The author said her desire to write came from many years of working on the staff of BGSU's Browne Popular Culture Library, where she handled a variety of fiction works. She also gives free educational presentations about self-publishing.
