Columbian teams bring down Galion in the cold

Columbian's boys and girls each won 14 of 17 events as they breezed past Galion in Tuesday's dual at chilly Frost-Kalnow Stadium. Austin Bentz's three individual wins led the boys to a 104-33 win, while Autumn Nichols and Tori Stephens each had two individual wins and anchored a winning relay in the girls' 109-27 win.

Bentz sprinted to victory in the 100 meters (11.3), the 400 (55.3) and the 200 (23.6). The Tornadoes had winning relay times of 9:24 in the 4 x 800, 1:40.5 in the 4 x 200, 47.3 in the 4 x 100 and 3:54.2 in the 4 x 400, as 11 runners took part in the relays.

Other individual wins for the Tornadoes came from Andy Schwartz in the long jump (17-10 1/2), Dylan Peacock (5-6), Dylan Dunn in the pole vault (10-0), Jared Feasel in the 110 hurdles (20.4), Brandon Mesnard and Sam Howard in the 1,600 (4:56.9), Caleb Feasel in the 300 hurdles (52.2) and Mesnard in the 800 (2:13.6).

Nichols captured the girls 100 hurdles (17.0) and 300 hurdles (47.6) and had the last leg the 4 x 400 (4:27.7), while Williams captured the 400 (1:04) and 200 (28.2) after finishing the 4 x 200 quartet's victory (1:53.3). Brittany Flint also got two wins, notching 15-7 in the long jump and 4-8 in the high jump, while Tori Stephens had fastest 100 time (13.5) and anchored the winning 4 x 100 (53.6).

Other TC winners included Maya Brown in the shot put (34-1 3/4), the 4 x 800 (11:45) and Chandler Carley in the pole vault (9-0).

Hughes, Depinet pace SE

ATTICA - Nick Hughes was a triple-winner to lead Seneca East's boys to an easy win in a home quad meet, while Katie Depinet's two victories highlighted the SE girls' win.

The Tiger boys had 134 points to Carey's 56, New Riegel's 49 and Mansfield St. Peter's 17. Hughes took the 110-meter hurdles (16.2), the 100 (11.5) and the 300 hurdles (54.8). Jamie Schafer added two wins, sprinting 54.8 in the 400 and 23.8 in the 200.

Other Seneca East wins came from Ben Hahler in the shot put (43-9), Tyler Johnson in the discus (116-4), Matt Ritz in the long jump (18-0) and the three sprint relays.

Carey's wins came from Cory Larick in the pole vault (12-0), Austin Nalle in the high jump (6-0) and Brandon Distel in the 800 (2:14.3). New Riegel won the 4 x 800, while Nathan Schalk claimed the 1,600 (5:05) and Daniel Arbogast the 3,200 (10:47).

In the girls meet, the Tigers took top honors with 99 points, while Carey had 87 1/2, New Riegel 48 and St. Peter's 18 1/2.

Katie Depinet threw 33-3 in the shot and 116-2 in the discus. Other SE wins came from Jackie Henney in the high jump (5-0), Kaci Miller in the 100 hurdles (17.7), Katy Heyman in the 300 hurdles (53.9) and Brittany Stockmaster in the 800 (2:45.1).

Carey's Lauren Jacoby was a double-winner, leaping 15-7 1/2 in the long jump and clocking 13.1 in the 100. Other Carey wins came from Morgan Wentling in the pole vault (9-6), the 4 x 200 and 4 x 100 quartets and Lauren Wenner in the 200 (29.3). New Riegel took the 4 x 800 and 4 x 400, and Blue Jackets Trisha Smith and Amy Wank won the 1,600 (6:32) and 3,200 (13:52), respectively.
