High school pop and jazz vocal groups from Ohio and Indiana are to come together with professional recording artists from Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia for Tiffin University's 14th annual Ohio Vocal Summit.
The event - Friday at The Ritz Theatre - is the largest such festival in the region, with free performances and educational sessions being conducted all day at The Ritz and The National Studio Theatre. The day concludes with a 7:30 p.m. concert at The Ritz by Chicago indie band Down The Line, joined by TU's a cappella groups Up in the Air and Higher Ground.
Down the Line has earned a reputation for "intense, energetic performances that feature unparalleled live vocals," according to a release. It has toured with legendary acts including Peter Frampton, America, Ben Folds and Gin Blossoms.
Down the Line members are to perform Friday at The Ritz Theatre.
Up in the Air and Higher Ground are to perform a signature mix of high-energy a cappella pop, rock, jazz and R&B music, including music by Janelle Monae, Green Day, Cee-Lo and V.V. Brown.
Los Angeles beatboxer Jake Moulton also will serve as a featured guest artist and clinician, presenting a beatboxing and vocal percussion demonstration and workshop in The National at 3:40 p.m.
Daytime activities feature performances by 24 high school vocal groups. All daytime activities are free. Tickets for Down The Line are $12 each and are available from The Ritz box office at (419) 448-8544.
