PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - So far, so good for the top-ranked Heidelberg baseball team.
That also goes for Nathan James, one of the team's most consistent starting pitchers a year ago. James threw seven innings, allowed six hits, one earned run and struck out five Tuesday against Ohio Wesleyan in a 6-2 HU victory. Heidelberg improved to 3-0.
The Student Princes got going offensively in the first inning, when Willie Brechun doubled in Ricardo Lizcano for a 1-0 edge over the Bishops. Ohio Wesley tied the game, but Heidelberg took over in the fourth when Alex Monroe hit the first of his two RBI singles in the game.
Jason Lash and Monroe each knocked in a run in the sixth, and Heidelberg added two more runs in the ninth. Jordan Martin drew a bases-loaded walk and Elvin Williams singled in a run.
Ohio Wesleyan fell to 3-4.
