Seneca County Agricultural Society awarded the contract for its new goat barn and show ring to Clouse Construction Tuesday night.
Bids for the 100-foot-square building are $112,495 for the building construction plus $4,700 for roof insulation.
Lucius Doors won the contract for the eight 16-foot doors coming in at $12,232 and Clouse Electric is to perform all electrical work including installation of security lights for a bid of $19,496.
Junior Fair Foundation has agreed to donate $50,000 toward the project this year and $10,000 per year for the next five years as long as flea markets continue.
Treasurer Robert Rainey said he was concerned when he spoke with the bank about financing. He said the fair board's estimated annual payment could run between $37,000 to $40,000. He reported a total of $53,181 in all accounts as of Jan. 31 and the present loan balance at $32,784.
The society said plans are in the works to tear down the existing building and use salvageable lumber to make repairs to the milkshake stand.
Randall Gittinger said an agreement had been reached for 2012 flea market dates. Members approved.
The first flea market is to take place May 7-8.
It was reported another upgrade at the entertainment building is nearly complete. A large dressing area for entertainers is to be added. Members approved the 2011 fair line up of musical entertainment.
Several highlights for the 2011 fair were discussed.
Sunday night harness racing is to include five miniature horse races. A display by six riders on BMX bikes is to occur. The draft horse show is to move to 11 a.m., Wednesday in front of the grandstand during fair week.
The agricultural society's annual whole hog sausage and pancake dinner is to take place 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. March 16 at the Youth Center on the fairgrounds.
President Calvin Staib said he wants to see the fair's website, including the schedules and rules for participants and the public fair book, by May 1. He said premium book recipients are to receive a post card alerting them to order a book or go online for a copy at www.countyfair.org.
In other news, Sheriff Bill Eckelberry and Commissioner Jeff Wagner attended Tuesday's meeting.
Eckelberry enquired about security coverage during fair week. Members said they are pleased with the county's assistance.
Wagner said he is to attend agricultural society meetings as a representative of Seneca County Board of Commissioners.

Viewed a plaque awarded to Seneca County for having the No. 2 pull in the state last year.
Heard the board is looking for a floral department supervisor for the fair.
Discussed fees for the Merchants' building. Openings are available for vendors.
Approved changes to the junior fair book of regulations.
Heard OSU Extension has been visiting schools to create interest in the 4-H program.
The agricultural society is to meet next at 7:30 p.m. March 8.
