Seneca jobless rate dips again

The unemployment rate in Seneca County decreased for the third month in a row.

According to data released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the jobless rate for September was 10.1 percent, down from 10.3 percent in August and 11.4 percent in July. The unemployment rate also is down from 12.7 percent in September 2009.

September's unemployment rate for the county is the lowest since December 2008, when it was 7 percent.

Most surrounding counties also reported slightly lower rates from August, with the exception of Ottawa County which was 11.1 percent, up from 9.9 percent in August, and Huron County which was 11.4 percent, up from 11.3 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate was reported at 10 percent, down from 10.1 percent in August. The national average is 9.6 percent.
