Eugene Dale Smith, 77, of Tiffin, died at 7:07 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 2010, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Eugene was born Dec. 15, 1932, in Old Fort, to Dale Eugene and Dorothy I. (Bland) Smith. He married Patricia J. (Hannah) Oct. 16, 1954, at St. Jacob's United Church of Christ, and she died April 7, 2007.
Eugene is survived by his three children, Delbert R. (Janice) Smith of Tiffin, Eugenia D. (Charles) Bentley of Kansas, Ohio, and Jessica A. (David) Polhamus of Michigan; his mother-in-law, Doris Ferree of Tiffin; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Eugene was a retired LPN and worked at Tiffin Development Center. He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, Tiffin, and was a member of the Tiffin Eagles. Eugene graduated from Fostoria High School and served with the National Guard during the Korean War.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Willis C. Smith; and a half sister, Mable Smith.
His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-1221, with the Rev. Gary Proietti officiating. A military graveside service conducted by the United Veterans Council will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home.
