After operating a storefront in Findlay for more than 20 years, Phil Snook is making a quieter transition while keeping others in sound.
Snook, who operated The Audio Clinic on Front Street in Findlay since 1987, has closed the shop there and moved his operation to his home in rural Tiffin.
The work has remained the same: keeping stereo and instrumental sound equipment, as well as public address systems, running smoothly.

Phil Snook works on audio equipment from his home shop.
Repairing grew on him through high school and college, as he played guitar himself, and he attended the National Radio Institute to study electronics after attending Ohio State University in the early 1980s. Growing up in the Findlay area, he located the store there, and did well. When he decided to build a home for his family outside of Tiffin, he eventually found the travel back and forth prohibitive. So Snook decided to attempt a home business venture.
"I wanted to see if I could attract enough business to work from home," he said. "I built this house 14, 15 years ago, and I was always at work." Although he did retail as well as repair at the store, Snook is just doing repair at home.
"I do custom building of speakers and audio cabinets of different kinds," he added.
He also is upgrading his presence online, at www.theaudioclinic.com.
Snook repairs guitar and bass amplifiers, PA systems and home and car stereo equipment. He said there is usually just several days in turnaround time needed for a repair.
His customers from Findlay have been loyal, and he continues to travel there several times a week to facilitate a drop off/pick up location. New Adventure Computers in Findlay is the location customers can use to drop off or pick up equipment.
"I will also pick up and drop off in Tiffin, to save customers a trip," Snook said.
Churches with sound equipment needs, especially if they have a band that performs during services, has been a growing aspect of Snook's business.
