Timothy Spence and Uta Melzer were married Sept. 8, 2010, in Austria in a civil ceremony joined by the couple's Ohio and Austrian families.
The wedding and a week of celebration in Vienna were attended by the groom's sister, Paula Spence, and her husband, Allan Lucius, of Tiffin; and brother, Jeffrey, and his wife, Barbara Spence, of Gahanna.
The groom's mother, Martha, of Tiffin, was not in attendance but provided a taped message at the wedding dinner.
The wedding ceremony was held at the town hall of Lutzmannsburg, Austria, with a dinner following at the home of the bride's parents, Ekkehard and Doris Melzer. The bride's father and brother, Georg, served as witnesses.
The bride, a lawyer, wore a sleeveless, pistachio-colored linen dress with a complementary silk shawl and a floral headband.
The groom, a journalist, wore a brown linen suit and pistachio-and-blue silk tie with a rosemary boutonniere.
The groom's mother hosted - from long distance - a traditional Austrian dinner of autumn salads, zucchini cream soup, Wiener Schnitzel, Krautstrudel and roasted chicken, followed by Punschtorte and Hungarian walnut and chocolate dumplings. French champagne and a selection of regional red and white wines, as well as Hungarian beer, were served. Dinner was followed by an array of Austrian cheeses, apples, grapes and pear Schnapps.
The couple also hosted a party Sept. 10 in Vienna for guests from Ohio, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong and Switzerland.
The couple lives in Vienna.
