New Seneca County Agricultural Society members were sworn in by county commissioner Mike Bridinger Tuesday night. Calvin Staib was elected president; Kenny Frankart, vice president; Phyllis Gerritsen, secretary and Robert Rainey, treasurer.
Members thanked outgoing President Dave Hoover for his service.
Staib said he would like to have member input at the next meeting on what they would like to see at next year's fair, as well as a five-year plan and a 10-year plan.
A new rule at Seneca County Fair this year was animals are not to leave the grounds until after 9 p.m. for transport to Ohio State Fair in time for their arrival date. A family broke that rule and members discussed following up with enforcement.
It was noted several families said they were angry when the new ruling came out and chose not to participate in the local fair.
Members determined a letter should be sent to the family informing them of their awareness an infraction occurred.
In other action, the board:
Determined to make a $20,000 payment with interest on a loan.
Approved paying a nearly $9,000 bill for the junior fair coordinator Val Hohman.
Learned junior fair board nominations are due Nov. 30.
Heard the milkshake stand needs refurbishing.
Learned new lights are to be installed in the horse barn
Members are to meet next at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12.
