A former Tiffin mayor and his wife were honored as the first inductees into the Seneca County Democrat Hall of Fame.
During the Democratic Central Committee meeting Thursday night, Chairman Tom Smathers suggested the committee create a Hall of Fame and honor former Tiffin Mayor Bob Booth and his wife, Janet, as the first inductees. Committee members approved.
Bob died Sept. 7. Janet, who sits on the committee, was at the meeting.
"We've been married 59 years and he has been an active Democrat for 59 years," Janet said. "We're thoroughly involved in it."
The Booths started the annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner. They also attended several Democratic National Conventions and two inaugurations.
"They have been Mr. and Mrs. Seneca County Democrat for many years," Smathers said. "(The Hall of Fame) will honor some of the people who have really been involved. They've done some really good things for the community."
In addition, the committee approved the purchase of a book at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library in Bob's memory.
In another matter, the committee is to conduct a public memorial at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Seneca County Courthouse to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The event was suggested by guest Samuel Christian.
The committee also approved allocations up to $200 from the check-off account and $200 from the general account to secure a campaign location in downtown Tiffin.
The correspondence and publicity committees are to investigate locations.
The committee also allocated $140 to set up a website.
In other news, the committee appointed Dave Thompson, Mike Grandillo, Nancy Grandillo, Joe Granada and Kay Van Bevern to the Seneca County Democratic Executive Committee.
The committee is to meet next at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Public Defense Building.
