Annual car raffle winding down

This is the final week to purchase tickets for the eighth annual automobile raffle, to take place Sept. 25. The winner can select a Chevrolet Camaro or a Dodge Challenger, donated by Baumann Auto Group. Proceeds from the raffle are to be divided among area charities. Tickets are $5 each and available at Community Hospice Care, 181 E. Perry St., Tiffin.

'Basket Bingo' to help Red Cross

Bingo lovers are invited to attend "Basket Bingo and Raffle," Saturday at the Tiffin Mall. All proceeds from the event are to benefit the local Red Cross chapter.

The doors open at 9:30 a.m., and two 3-hour sessions are planned for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Basket Bingo is to feature Longaberger baskets, and a raffle is to be conducted after the second session.

For this event, every bingo game will pay cash in larger amounts than the weekly bingo sessions.

celebrate

165 years

FOSTORIA - St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1371 S. SR 587, is to celebrate its 165th anniversary Saturday and Sunday. The annual chicken barbecue is 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday. In addition to the dinners, roast beef and chicken sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, side dishes and desserts are to be available.

The anniversary worship service is 10 a.m. the following day. The Rev. Dan Busch, association minister for the UCC's northwest Ohio association, is to speak.

Ox roast planned at fire house

BLOOMVILLE The Bloomville Lions Club is to host its 45th annual Ox Roast Sunday at the Bloomville Fire Station on South SR 19, Bloomville. Beginning at 11 a.m., the Lions are to serve beef sandwiches, potato or macaroni salad, applesauce, ice cream and beverages.

Family to Family course begins Wednesday

FREMONT - National Alliance on Mental Illness of Seneca, Sandusky, and Wyandot counties is to offer its Family to Family program to provide knowledge and skills needed to cope with a loved one with a brain disorder.

The course runs 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday and 11 consecutive Wednesdays at Pontifex, 416 W. State St., Fremont. To register, call the NAMI office at (888) 582-8889.

Advocates are needed to help abused children

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot counties are to have the organizational meeting for the new class of volunteers at 6 p.m. Sept. 15, at the main office in Tiffin, 21 Court St.

In order to become a CASA volunteer, an application must be completed as well as a background check and 30 hours of training.

Meeting has 'smile' theme

FREMONT - Area women are invited to the Fremont Area Women's Connection Sept. 14 at Fremont Country Club, 2340 E. State St., Fremont. Doors are to open at 10:30 a.m. with lunch running 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. "Make Someone Smile" is the theme for the event.

Jilly Gran, owner of "Bloom" in downtown Fremont is to give a program, and the speaker is Elaine Kitchin of Medway, whose talk is titled "Trading in Control for Contentment."
