GREEN SPRINGS - Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory of Fremont has purchased Engle Shook Funeral Home in Green Springs from Eric and Jennifer Shook.
"We're happy it was a perfect fit between us two," said Eric Shook. "They're going to carry on the tradition very well."
Since the transfer took place June 15, the new owners have been working to update the grounds and the building's interior.
"We've already started landscaping. We've been putting a lot of work and time into making it look good," said Helene Horvath Zielinski, vice president of Wonderly Horvath Hanes. "To spruce it up to match the beautiful homes in Green Springs.
"We're pleased to be in Green Springs," Zielinski said. "I had worked at St. Francis in Green Springs for many years, so it's like going home for me. Green Springs has such a rich history.
"It's very close to Fremont, so it makes it very easy and very convenient," she said. "We are pleased to be able to serve Green Springs, Clyde, Old Fort and surrounding areas."
The Fremont location has been serving families for 75 years.
Tom Horvath, a Vietnam veteran, joined the Fremont firm in 1981 and became a partner in 1986. His wife, Helene Horvath Zielinski, joined the firm in 1996. Scott Hanes joined in 1998 and became a partner in 2005. That year, the funeral home installed a crematory and the name was changed to Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory.
