to host lawn social Saturday
Sycamore United Church of Christ is to host its annual lawn social 5-7 p.m. Saturday. Enjoy sandwiches, baked beans, noodles, potato salad and fruit salad. For dessert, choose from ice cream and homemade pies, cookies and brownies. Everyone is welcome.
Have a blast next week at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Tiffin
"Baobab Blast! God's Great Get-Together" is the theme of vacation Bible school which meets at Ebenezer UMC from 9 a.m. till noon this Monday through Friday.
Ebenezer UMC is located at 75 N. Sandusky St., and all are welcome.
The theme is apt, because four area churches come together for the event; First Presbyterian Church, St. John's UCC, Trinity UCC and Ebenezer are working together to make this a powerful week for children of the community to learn about God's work in the world.
Our Lady of Consolation shrine to host diversity celebration
CAREY - The Diocese of Toledo has scheduled a Diversity Mass and Celebration July 18 at Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay St., Carey. Participants are invited to wear cultural attire.
The event begins with Mass at noon, celebrated by Bishop Leonard Blair. The scripture readings will be done in languages that represent the heritage of Catholics in the diocese. Also featured is a sign language choir, a reading from Braille text and and a sign language interpreter.
Following Mass until 4 p.m., ethnic foods are to be available and entertainment is to be provided by Mexican, Irish, African-American and other performing groups. A rosary procession and Eucharistic devotions are set for 2:30 p.m. The diversity celebration is being done in conjunction with the diocese' centenary observance.
Christian music festival coming to Toledo in August
TOLEDO - "Exclaim! 2010," a Christian music festival, is in the works for Aug. 15 at the CYO Athletic Complex in Toledo. Volunteers from various parishes in the Diocese of Toledo are helping out with the event. The event is free and open to all. Families are welcome to bring a packed lunch or to purchase food from the concessions.
The music begins at 2 p.m. with two local bands performing. At 3:30 p.m., singer/songwriter Jackie Francois is to perform. Headlining the festival is recording artist Matt Maher at 5 p.m. His latest single, "Alive Again," was named best Christian and Gospel single of 2009.
In addition to music, the festival is to include games and sports tournaments. The event is to wrap up with a Mass at 7 p.m. For more information, visit exclaimtoledo.org.
Flat Rock church plans July 4 event
The annual lawn social at Flat Rock United Methodist Church is to take place July 4. From 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., church members are to be serving sandwiches, salads, baked beans, fresh fruit and homemade pies. Root beer floats and cold beverages are to be available at the curb from noon till 4 p.m.
There is to be a parade down Main Street at 3 p.m. A mini-art show featuring the work of Jim Andrews is to be on display in the church, and the women of the church are having a yard sale.

Church offering 'Feed My Kids'
FOSTORIA - First Presbyterian Church in Fostoria is serving free lunches 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. The program, known as "Feed My Kids," is to operate now though Aug. 12 in the church at the corner of Perry and West Fremont streets, Fostoria. All are welcome at no charge. Terry Tripp Ministries to be at Fostoria Church of God
Fostoria Church of God is to feature Terry Tripp Ministries beginning at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 15.
Tripp and his wife are known as talented musicians and ministers. Terry is the son of well-known southern gospel vocalist and songwriter Lavern Tripp of the singing family seen on TBN and other national programs.

'Berg coach to speak at men's breakfast
Heidelberg University's football coach, Mike Hallett, is to speak July 17 during a men's breakfast at Old Fort United Methodist Church in Old Fort. All area men are welcome to the event. The breakfast is to begin at 9 a.m., with Hallett speaking at 9:30 a.m.
Saddle up for Grace Baptist's vacation Bible school
Grace Baptist Church, 161 N. SIR 101, Tiffin, will conduct a vacation Bible school, Saddle Ridge Ranch, 6-9 p.m. July 12-16. Children age 4 though sixth grade are welcome to help round up questions about God. There will be games, music and snacks. Family night will include pony rides. Coffee House Ministries to feature Christian vocalist July 18
Fostoria Church of God's Coffee House Ministries is to feature contemporary Christian vocalist Tonia Harris of Fremont on July 18, in their expanded facilities, complete with a 33-foot stage and seating for 200 guests.
Harris and her husband are the pastors of Heritage Church in Fremont and Tonia is known as a dynamic minister in song.
The Coffee House opens at 5 p.m. and is to be operating throughout the evening, complete with an improved menu. People can come early and enjoy a favorite beverage and snack from the coffee bar before the performance, which is to begin at 6 p.m.
Ronald Callahan is minister in music/organist for Fostoria Church of God and is the executive director of Coffee House Ministries. He cranks out the tunes on the Hammond XB-3 organ at every session, being accompanied on keyboards by Penny Drake and Naomi Rickard, on drums by Adam Drake and by Ken Fraley on bass. Vocalists include Charlene Agapiou, Michelle Agapiou, Andy Bauman, Mary Bauman, Paula Correll, Randy Correll, Travis Drake and Patti Fraley.
Fostoria's Coffee House Ministries atmosphere consists of indoor theatrical lighting, fog machines, a full coffee bar with specialty beverages and live music. Casual dress is encouraged and a supervised playroom is available for the children. The facility is handicapped accessible.
