Pork chop dinner Sunday

BLOOMVILLE - Bloomville Lions Club is to host a pork chop dinner Sunday in the Bloomville Community Center, 10 Beeghly Ave. The menu is to consist of two pork chops, scalloped potatoes, green beans or corn, rolls and a dessert.

Serving is to begin at 11 a.m.

Duo to sing Sunday

Dust and Ashes, a music group consisting of Tom Page and Mary Lou Troutman, are to appear for three performances at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

The duo is to sing about Christian faith - the importance of a life of personal devotion to God and of a life committed to helping bring justice and peace to the Earth.

Hyssongs to perform

The Hyssongs, a southern gospel music family, are to perform at First United Baptist Church, 419 Coe St., beginning at 7 p.m. May 21.

Poker run for Christ

BASCOM - Bascom United Methodist Church is to host a Blessing of the Bikes: Poker run beginning at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

All bikes and bikers are welcome to participate. Food and entertainment are to follow.

Activity center gets blessing

The Rev. Frank Murd blessed the activity center at Freidman Village at St. Francis April 15. The blessing took place at the villa residents' monthly pizza party.

The activity center is located on the Friedman Village campus. Residents of Friedman Village at St. Francis may use the activity center free of charge for gatherings.

The activity center includes a meeting room, full kitchen, exercise equipment and a pool table.

Earlier in the year, Murd blessed the activity center and individual villas.

Friedman Village at St. Francis is located on St. Francis Avenue in Tiffin and is part of the St. Francis community.

Seminarians become deacons

CAREY - May 1, three seminarians were ordained as transitional deacons for the Diocese of Toledo at Our Lady of Consolation Basilica and National Shrine in Carey.

Ordained by the Rev. Leonard P. Blair, the men included Phillip Smith of Tiffin St. Joseph, Jerry Schetter of Holy Rosary parish in St. Mary and Michael Roemmelle of Perrysburg St. Rose.

A graduate of Calvert High School and Franciscan University of Steubenville, Smith is completing his theology studies at Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy. He did a pastoral internship year at St. Wendelin Parish in Fostoria. The vestors for his ordination were the Rev. G. Allan Fillman and the Rev. Michael Dandurand.

Prior to his study as a seminarian, Schetter worked for 32 years as a small business manager. He is a seminarian at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Conn. studying theology. He has been assigned to serve this summer at St. Mary Parish in Tiffin and is to return January through May for a pastoral internship. The vestors for his ordination are the Rev. Keith Stripe and the Rev. Mel Verhoff.

Having done summer assignments at All Saints Parish in New Riegel and the Catholic Club in downtown Toledo, Roemmelle is to serve this summer at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Sandusky. He is a seminarian at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati, studying theology. The vestors for his ordination were the Rev. Dennis Hartigan and Msgr. William Neuhaus, V.F., of Covington, Ky.
