Community and technical colleges have been a godsend for millions of Americans. Yet when it comes time for states and the federal government to dole out money, the institutions often do not get as much attention as four-year colleges and universities.
President Barack Obama wants to hold a "summit" meeting on community colleges. He already has asked Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, to be in charge. Mrs. Biden, an educator for 29 years, teaches at a community college in Virginia.
We think such a meeting is a good idea. We hope it focuses on opportunities offered by community and technical colleges - and on the challenges they face.
