Ex-letter carrier gets 28 months
By Erika Platt, eplatt@advertiser-tribune.comA former U.S. postal carrier indicted in May on 11 federal charges was sentenced to 28 months in prison Monday.
Marsha Billock-Strahm, 48, of Carey, was sentenced in U.S. District Court after she withdrew a plea of not guilty and pleaded guilty in September to four counts of false credit card applications, one count of aggravated identity theft, five counts of identity theft and one count of theft of mail, according to the court Web site.
Billock-Strahm stole packages and mail, including pre-approved credit applications, credit cards and convenience checks in 2008, according to her indictment.
She also used the identification of another person, and made false statements for the purpose of influencing the actions of financial institutions.
She was arrested in August 2008 after investigators seized mail from her home that was not addressed to her, along with jewelry and clothing.
According to court documents, Billock-Strahm was ordered Monday to pay $18,377.48 in restitution to Chase Card Services, Bank of America and Discover Financial Services.
