The Tiffin-Seneca United Way reported Friday its has raised 59 percent of its goal for the 2009-10 campaign.
Director Pat DeMonte said the campaign has reached $267,571.55 in gifts, more than what it had at this time last year.
The United Way recently has received large donations from a few area organizations, including $4,449 from employees of Fifth Third Bank. Judy Clem, campaign chairwoman and Fifth Third employee, said she was happy with the contributions.
"I'm really pleased - that's 13 employees averaging $342 apiece," Clem said. "I would love to challenge other banks and their employees to beat us."
In addition, professional medical and hospital donations have reached $22,48.72, which is 112 percent of the goal. Vice Chairman Bernie Steinmetz said there still may be contributions coming from this category.
As well as contributions from individual donors and organizations, the United Way has found success in events that, according to DeMonte, put the "fun back into fundraising."
DeMonte said the United Way's first online auction was a success and brought $3,300 to the campaign.
"It was a really great experience and I want to do it again," DeMonte said.
The organization also has found success with other fundraisers, including its 5K run, Seneca Star Search and a garage sale.
A 50/50 drawing in conjunction with the Tiffin Area Chamber of Commerce is open now. Those interested can purchase tickets at the United Way or the Chamber.
DeMonte said the United Way is planning on having their annual corntoss championship sometime in January or February of 2010.
