A man who played on championship basketball teams is to address "The Biggest Obstacle to Team Building" during an upcoming breakfast lecture.
Larry Siegfried, a member of the 1960 Ohio State University national championship team and five-time NBA champion Boston Celtics, according to a release from Tiffin University, is the speaker for the first Good Morning World program of the school year. It is 7:30 a.m. Oct. 29.
"More and more people love hearing from successful athletes, not just on the basketball court, but in life," said Michael Grandillo, vice president for development and public affairs. "He represents that."
Siegfried, a native of Shelby, was an All-Ohio and All-American basketball player in high school and was an All-Big Ten and All-American player at Ohio State University. He played for the Boston Celtics and later taught faith-based classes in prisons, according to a release from TU.
Grandillo said a mutual friend was able to secure Siegfried for TU. Siegfried has no TU connection but does have a northwest Ohio connection; he was born and raised in Shelby, where he spent most of his youth farming and playing basketball, he said.
This marks Siegfried's first TU speaking engagement, and Grandillo said he is an articulate and motivating speaker. He said he thinks people will hear about how someone from the region went on to be successful on and off the court and loves giving something back to communities such as Tiffin and TU.
Grandillo said he thinks the part of Siegfried's speech about Shelby High School will be interesting.
"Hopefully, it's a nice crowd as always," he said.
Good Morning World is keeping with an athletic theme next month as Dick Schafrath, former Cleveland Browns player and state senator, is to speak Nov. 19. Grandillo said he played with the Browns for 13 years and was an All-Pro offensive tackle.
