Calvert races to Nieset title at Lakota Invitational (Cross Country Roundup)

BETTSVILLE - Jamison Brickner clocked in second and two other Senecas finished in the top 20 Saturday as Calvert claimed the Doug Nieset crown at the Lakota Invitational.

Brickner crossed the line in 16:25 to guide Calvert's title run to 81 points.

New Riegel edged Old Fort, 109-110, for second, with Carey claiming sixth (158), Hopewell-Loudon ending seventh (192), Mohawk coming in eighth (204) and St. Wendelin finishing ninth (210) out of 16 teams.

Joe Brodman backed up Brickner by running 12th (17:26) and Mike Mullen captured 18th (17:43) in the 146-runner field.

Nathan Schalk's ninth (17:21) sparked the runner-up Blue Jackets. Drew Cassidy (17:36) and Daniel Arbogast (17:39) ended 15th and 16th for New Riegel.

Old Fort got a seventh from Zach Alexander (17:03), while Jeremiah Ortiz (17:50) and Nathan Alexander (17:55) came in 19th and 20th, respectively.

Carey's Evan Wenner finished 13th (17:29) and Tyler Wise's sixth (16:35) lead the H-L charge.

Drew Trusty of Mohawk ran third (16:28) and teammate Jimmy Koehler came in eighth (17:20), and St. Wendelin's Mark Berton captured fifth (16:32).

In the Joe McKown race, Lakota's Kyle Babcock clocked in 11th (17:16) to help the Raiders upend Fostoria 279-355 for 13th.

Antonio Eufracio's 45th (18:21) led Fostoria.

Elmwood won the title by a 74-117 margin over Liberty-Benton.

Old Fort tears up H.P. Eells

BETTSVILLE - Old Fort had four girls in the top 10 and another in the top 50 to score 64 points, 32 ahead of runner-up Hopewell-Loudon in the Rachel Muoz race of the Lakota Invitational at H.P Eells Park.

Alexa Stults was the first Stockader to cross the line, taking second in 19:51, just two seconds behind champion Delainey Phelps from Toledo Christian (19:49).

Sam Hassen added a fifth (20:12) for the champion Stockaders, while Katelynn Young (7th, 20:49), Kristen Compliment (9th, 21:10) and Kelley Miller (46th, 23:21) rounded out the scoring team.

Hopewell-Loudon ran second with Cassie Reinhart (13th, 21:24) and Krysten King (17th, 21:55) leading the Chieftains. Katelyn Brickner (24th, 22:21), Erin Reinhart-Anez (25th, 22:24) and Brandi Boes (26th, 22:25) rounded out the top five.

Carey (4th, 131) was paced by sophomore Jenna Jesko (12th, 21:18) while Calvert's Molly Chambers took sixth (20:18) and Elizabeth Buchman added 14th (21:29) for the Senecas (5th, 147).

Mohawk (8th, 193) seen its highest finish from Marissa Lasky (8th, 21:08) while New Riegel (12th, 257) received a 21st place finish from Amy Wank (22:14).

St. Wendelin didn't compete as a team but Anna Iannantuono took 15th (21:40) to lead the Mohawks.

In the Julie Harrison race, Lakota senior Julia Windom ran away with the individual title in 20:05. Freshman Ashlyn Roberts took 61st for Fostoria (23:10).

Stockmaster, Phillips guide Tigers to runner-up finish

GALION - Brittany Stockmaster and Jessica Phillips had the usual 1-2 punch for Seneca East, but this time there was something different: An addition.

Stockmaster just edged out teammate Phillips for first (18:55-18:56) but Brooke Szabo returned from injury to help the Tigers finish second in the Division III race.

Szabo clocked a 21:09 for 20th, while Brecka Szabo (21:23) pulled in 23rd for the Tigers. Janece Schaffer turned in a 45th (22:10) and Corrine Gildenmeister crossed the line 70th (23:00).

Crestview won a close team race with Seneca East and Northmor by scoring 82 points. Seneca East edged Northmor 88-89.

Buckeye Central also competed, taking last in the race with 545 points. Samantha Rictschlin led the Buckettes with an 86th (23:39).

Fittro, TC lead area at Galion

GALION - Cole Fittro finished just outside the top 10 to help Columbian finish 12th out of 32 teams in Saturday's Division II race at the Galion Invitational.

Fittro crossed the line 11th in 16:44 for the Tornadoes, who edged Lima Shawnee 341-344 for 12th.

Bay Village Bay beat Rocky River, 75-112, for the team title.

Sam Howard added a 33rd (17:30.8) for Columbian and Brandon Mesnard claimed 47th (17:46).

Jay Clinger's 118th (19:01) led Upper Sandusky. The Rams ended 32nd (886).

In the Division III race, Seneca East took 18th, with 435 points, and Buckeye Central ended 21st (590) out of 22 teams.

Brad McConnell captured 50th (18:21) to lead Seneca East.

Buckeye Central's Ricky Zeigler took 94th (19:28).

Liberty Union raced past Fredericktown 61-107 for the championship.

Buckeye Central's Michael Nickler ended 190th (22:58) in the open race.

TC misses top runners

GALION - Columbian only ran five girls, the minimum in the girls Division II race, but one of them turned in a top-20 effort for the Tornadoes.

Kali Fittro ran 19th (20:19) to guide Columbian to a 21st place finish with 544 points.

Hanna Musil clocked a 21:38 for 65th, while Ashley Burns ran 100th (22:26), Jaclyn Black ended 162nd (24:39) and Julia Lewis added a 198th (32:00).

Upper Sandusky also competed, taking 17th (459). Halee Stief led the Rams with a 58th (21:28).
