Joanne Phelps

Joanne L. Phelps, 84, of Tiffin, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.

She was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Tiffin to Flavel and Leona (Shultz) Heyman. She married John P. Phelps Aug. 17, 1946, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin.

Survivors include her husband, John Phelps of Tiffin; two daughters, Jane (Doug) Lauderman of Norwalk and Patti (Dan) Schmitz of Tiffin; a son, Mike (Fabie) Phelps of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Flavel J. Heyman of Upper Sandusky; a sister, Evelyn Heyman of Tiffin; six grandchildren, Kim Greve and Sharon Bridges of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeff Lauderman of North Fairfield, Kasey Lauderman of Canal Winchester, Jennifer Bates of Green River, Wyo., and Jason Schmitz of Tiffin; 10 great-grandchildren; and one expected great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were a daughter, Mary Ann Phelps; a brother, Donald Heyman; and a granddaughter, Wendy Lauderman.

Joanne graduated from Calvert High School in 1943. She was employed in the office at Mohawk Motor, and was office manager at Gem Manufacturing in Bascom. She also worked at Robert Sacksteder Associates in Tiffin as an accountant. Joanne was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bascom, Rosary Altar Society, and was a 50-year member of Pleasant Grove Grange. She also was a member of Hopewell Farm Women's Club, Country Farm Women's Club, and Y-Wives.

A Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bascom, with the Rev. Art Niewiadomski officiating. The Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Tiffin.

Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service is at 7:45 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, St. Francis Home, or St. Patrick Catholic Church.
