Sutton Bank looks to renew lease agreement in Attica

January 2, 2009
By Bonnie Daniel, Correspondent

ATTICA - Clerk/Treasurer Larry Dunson reported Sutton Bank was interested in a new five-year lease agreement for a 24-space parking lot that the bank uses. Council members discussed and approved the new agreement and are to present it to Rick Gillette, Sutton Bank president. Police Chief Jeff Briggs suggested several parking spaces could be designated for public use. No action was taken.

Village Administrator Greg Martin said council should continue to examine its costs while determining rate increases for water and sewer usage in the village. Martin also reported the catch basin in front of the drive-thru needs immediate attention because the pothole has grown quite large. Martin suggested cold patch could be applied for now and the necessary repairs could be completed in the spring.

Solicitor Dean Henry updated council about the case against Kirk Brothers and the work that was done at the waterplant. Henry is going to make a motion to be allowed to take depositions and gather more pre-trial discovery after January 1. He also said dates for pre-trial conferences, mediations and trial dates have been set.

In other business, council:

* Adopted an ordinance authorizing a pay raise for certain village employees.

* Heard the second reading of the ordinance approving the temporary 2009 appropriations.

* Heard the next recycling date is 4:30-6 p.m. Feb. 5 and many volunteers are needed.

* Heard the annual Seneca Regional Planning Committee meeting is 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Public Safety Building.

* Discussed how many hand-held radios are needed by the village and what the cost might be.

* Questioned an Attica EMS billing for services rendered in 2008, and Henry is to investigate and report.

* Discussed compensation and a Public Eemployees Retirement System request with Henry.

Council next meets at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8 in the municipal building.
