Attica Council told emergency tower to be installed in 2009
By Bonnie Daniel, CorrespondentATTICA - Seneca County Commissioner Mike Bridinger and EMS Director Dan Stahl spoke to Attica council members Thursday night.
They informed them the long awaited emergency communication tower for the eastern portion of the county should be installed by summer.
Bridinger stated, "It's been a safety issue for these townships." He also said, "It has been a good collaboration for the county and the village." The land and a building containing a generator were donated by the village to cut costs.
Stahl relayed that progress was delayed obtaining a permit from the FAA for the construction phase of the 180-foot tower.Once that was procured, next came FCC approval.
Several frequencies will be in use. One is SAFE, which means Seneca Area Fire EMS. A second is to be used by law enforcement officials and another is EOC. Future frequencies for engineering, public works, villages and townships will be added.
The projected costs for the tower are $150,000.
The exact number of needed radios for the emergency system for all parties involved was questioned.
Village Administrator Greg Martin reported that John Martin is ready to demolish the old water treatment plant. The winter supply of salt has arrived. The bins have been erected and will be under roof soon, he said.
The meeting moved into executive session for discussion of pending litigation.
In other business, the council:
- Heard the second reading of an ordinance authorizing a pay raise for certain village employees.
- Heard the first reading of the ordinance approving the temporary 2009 appropriations.
- Approved an emergency resolution transferring $7,000 from the general fund to the police fund.
