Drug and alcohol tests from a fatal accident Sept. 22 near Republic recently came back negative, a spokesman from the State Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
Tests were administered to driver Nathaniel A. Schroth, 21, and his passengers, Zachary L. Jacobs, 24, and Drew Thompson, 18, all of Tiffin, after alcohol was suspected in a crash caused when Schroth failed to stop at a stop sign on TR 122 and was struck by a vehicle on SR 18.
Jacobs was pronounced dead at the scene and Schroth was extracted by mechanical means from his vehicle and transported by Life Flight to a Toledo hospital.
Thompson, along with the driver and passenger of the other vehicle, were taken to Mercy Hospital of Tiffin with non-life-threatening injuries.
Jacobs was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
