Calvert schools keeping three buildings

POSTED: November 19, 2008

The Calvert Catholic Schools Board of Trustees passed two measures that are to affect the future of the system's facilities.

Members passed a resolution stating they would not change the current building configuration for the next three years, until the end of the 2010-11 school year, with the decision able to be reviewed.

Then, they passed another that states the system should obtain and review bids from outside contractors to bring the buildings up to Americans with Disabilities Act specifications during the summer months.

After Tuesday's meeting, Superintendent Ted Rombach said in the past, many people in Tiffin have talked about the board possibly looking at a configuration that may reduce the number of buildings it uses.

"Hopefully, (the measure) solidifies the thinking of our parents and the community in that we are going to try to maintain our present structure in the future," he said.

Rombach said a group of outside professionals in the construction business surveyed the buildings, and bringing them up to ADA codes was one of the main things they discussed.

"We can't do it at one time," he said. "It's a very expensive operation."

Rombach said the resolution board members passed approves spending about $25,000 on the project.

"There's some improvements going to be made in all three buildings," he said.

In other business, the board:

* Approved memorials and gifts totaling $465.
