Village liability mulled

By Jonathan McElhatten, Correspondent
POSTED: November 12, 2008

Sycamore - Sycamore Village Council was presented with a liability form by Solicitor James Gucker at Tuesday night's meeting. With the village using its own representatives and volunteeers in rebuilding a local bridge, it was felt it may help to avoid litigation.

The village's insurance representative also attended, assuring its policy would also cover all involved.

Mayor Michael Tschanen said he is planning to complete the project during Thanksgiving weekend if the supplies arrive in time.

Local businessman Don Paul addressed council representing the Businessmen's Association of Sycamore. Paul is contacting businesses within a 5-mile radius of the village to start a movement in helping out the village in this depressed economy. He asks they contact him at (419) 927-4412.

Administrator Charles Clark and Councilwoman Dawn Needles jointly asked residents refrain from raking leaves into the streets. One resident already has had problems with a sewer backup due to leaves in the sewer.

Needles also announced she has been in contact with the communication director for the North Pole and has been told Santa Claus is planning to visit the village 10 a.m.-noon Dec. 13.

It also was announced new playground equipment is being installed Nov. 21-23 and volunteers are being solicited.

The next council meeting is Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
