Commissioners to hear courthouse development proposal today

POSTED: November 10, 2008

The fate of the 1884 Seneca County Courthouse could be finally determined based on information to be presented today to the Seneca County commissioners.

The Seneca County Courthouse Development Group is scheduled to present its proposal to save the courthouse to the county commissioners. Plans by the development group could include participation by the Sandusky County Seneca County City of Tiffin Port Authority to access funds otherwise not available to the county.

The commissioners are expected to consider the information and make a decision before mid-December about whether the proposal is sufficient to prevent the demolition and replacement of the historic courthouse.

The commissioners also are expected to hear an update of activities by the Tiffin Chamber of Commerce and the Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp.

In other business the commissioners are expected to consider resolutions for the following:

* Establishing the county's premium contribution and health insurance rates for 2009.

* To enter into an agreement with Dean Strausbaugh for snow removal of the county's small lots.

* To enter into an agreement with Elchert's Lawn Mowing Service for snow removal.

* To enter into an agreement with Tyler Technologies Inc., CLT Division, for IAS maintenance services on behalf of the county auditor.

* Establishing the county's health insurance Cobra rates for 2009.

Financial considerations as follows:

* A supplemental appropriation of $1,000 within the commissary fund for other expenses.

* A supplemental appropriation of $130,000 to the children's services fund for assistance.

* A supplemental appropriation of $1,200 to the foster children donation fund.

* A supplemental appropriation of $4,431 to the victims assistance program court costs and miscellaneous fund.

* A supplemental appropriation of $5,000 to the clerk's computer research fund.

* A supplemental appropriation of $54,279 to the jail expansion fund.

* A fund transfer of $54,279 to the general fund.

* A supplemental appropriation of $5 to the CROSSWAEH CBCF fund.

* An appropriation adjustment of less than $1 to the CROSSWAEH CBCF fund.

* A fund transfer of $5 to the general fund.

* Appropriation adjustments totaling $6,849 within the general fund.

* An appropriation adjustment of $24 within the soil and water fund.

* An appropriation adjustment of $90,000 within the children services fund.
