Parent-teacher conferences are at Columbian High School by appointment 4:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 and 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Oct. 24. All Columbian, Sentinel, Tech Prep and Vanguard classes are to be in session on Oct. 23.

There is no school for Columbian students Oct. 24. All Sentinel, Tech Prep and Vanguard classes are to be in session Oct. 24. Bus transportation is to be provided.

Parents who wish to schedule an appointment should call Columbian at (419) 447-6331 and ask for Pat Wise.

The Tiffin University women's basketball team is to host a lock-in 7-10 p.m. Oct. 25 inside Gillmor Student Center's gymnasium. Admission is $7 each and concessions are to be available.

Children ages K-6 may come dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes. There is to be face painting, coloring, games and more.

Guardians must sign the children in and out. Call Rachel Pike at (419) 448-3308 with any questions.

FREMONT-Seven students and their instructors from Terra Community College recently attended a national conference in Dearborn, Mich., sponsored by the Color and Appearance Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers. "Driving Color into the Next Decade" was the theme of the three-day event, which began Sept. 21.

In recent years, Professor Jamie Przybylski's students have been the guests of the Color and Appearance Division at the conferences.

"Attending this national conference is always a benefit for the students," said Przybylski, who teaches in the plastics technology program at Terra. "They meet lots of people in the plastics field and gather lots of business cards."

Thomas Horn of Green Springs was a two-time attendee. Andrea Meyers of Republic went to a similar event when she was a student at Sentinel Career Center.

FINDLAY-The University of Findlay's School of Environmental and Emergency Management, in partnership with the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, is to offer two training programs at no cost to participants: Multi-Hazard Planning for Schools, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 5-6, and Emergency Planning and Special Needs Populations, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 17-19.
