Donald Reid, 83, of Tiffin, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2008, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
Donald was born May 16, 1925, in Scott, Ohio, to Elmer and Vivian (Terry) Reid. He married Martha Stock Feb. 19, 1950. She preceded him in death. He later married Diane Adkins Aug. 29, 1986. She survives in Tiffin.
Other survivors include two daughters, Karla (Tom) Furry of Venice, Fla., and Ruth (Bob) Metcalf of Tiffin; two stepsons, Jim Adkins and Richard "Rusty" (Julie) Adkins, both of Tiffin; a stepdaughter, Kim (Pat) Doran of Tiffin; six grandchildren, Heather Fant, Kimberly Reid, Jenna Doran, Brett Adkins, Chelsea Adkins and Erica Adkins, and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his first wife, Martha, Feb. 28, 1973; a son, Arlen Reid, Nov. 21, 1985; his infant grandson, Paul Arlen Reid; and a great-grandchild.
Donald was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Bettsville High School, and co-owner of the Pie House in Bettsville with his brother. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1943-1946. He also worked at Basic Refractories for 23 years, and Frosted Foods for 9 years. He was a member of Tiffin Moose Lodge 846, American Legion Post 733 in Bettsville and VFW Post 2947 in Fremont.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, t the funeral home, with the Rev. David Good officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel South Bend Cemetery in McCutchenville.
Friends may visit with the family 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, (419) 447-2424.
