Attica takes on two part-time officers

ATTICA - Attica's police force added auxiliary officers Jeff and Joe Bauman as part-time officers at Thursday evening's council meeting, as recommended by Police Chief Jeff Briggs.
He also stated he had not receive a school security contract from the Seneca East School system. Flashing school lights remaining in the village can be removed, according to Briggs, but no estimate for removal has been obtained.
On Oct. 7, the closing on the water plant reservoir improvements between the village and the USDA/RD took place. Village officials did learn that not enough revenue is being generated to pay the debt service at present.
Roe Tree Service was in Attica cutting trees Thursday. Homeowners have been splitting the costs with the village. The tree committee is awaiting the priority list from the forestry division before felling can continue next month.
They enquired as to
the amount of funds remaining in their budget. It was felt that perhaps the stumps could be removed next year.
Village Administrator Greg Martin reported neon crosswalk signs have been ordered and his department is pre-fabbing the forms necessary to make repairs to the catch basin in front of the drive-through. Completion of the project this fall depends on the weather and manpower available.
Martin also announced the hiring of Matt Karl at the wastewater plant and Bernie Spyker at the sewer plant. Ann Roth has been employed to clean the municipal building.
Martin also said the repaired park picnic tables again have been vandalized.
Treasurer Larry Dunson said recycling funds could be used for two new picnic tables and a request had been made for a new bench in front of the post office.
Councilman Ed Enders announced recycling is 4-6 p.m. Nov. 6 with Venice Township in charge. Volunteers are needed.
Councilman Louis Sanders reported a new facade has been completed at the fire department but it needs a new roof and estimates are being obtained.
Seneca County Prosecutor Ken Egbert Jr. campaigned to retain his position in November.
The meeting moved into executive session to discuss pending litigation.

n Adopted the ordinance amending the zoning classification of certain property
n Heard the Seneca County Village Association meeting is 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at Bloomville Community Center
n Receive an invitation from the American Legion Auxiliary for a flag disposal ceremony at the Attica Fairgrounds at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Council meets next at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13.
