Donald Douglas Hoover, 62, of Tiffin, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 7, 2008, at his home.
He was born Sept. 20, 1946, in Tiffin, to Royal J. "Bud" and Ella M. (Schleter) Hoover. He married Judy Sheldon, and they later divorced.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherri (Doug) Chambers of Findlay; two brothers, Dale (Bev) Hoover of Tiffin and Steve (Crystal) Hoover of Dayton; seven sisters, Jean Marie Pettaway of Bronx, N.Y., Elizabeth Pachlhofer of Fostoria, Kathleen Fitzpatrick of Bettsville, Jane (Steve) Wilson, Margaret (Larry) Spaun and Helen (Richard) King, all of Tiffin, and Barbara (Larry) Aller of Findlay; two grandchildren, Gage Douglas Chambers and Benjamin Hoover Chambers; a stepgranddaughter, Lindsey Chambers; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a brother-in-law, Robert Pachlhofer.
Don was a 1964 graduate of Calvert High School, attended Terra Tech and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a member of Local 823 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Most recently, he worked for Diamond Inspection Services as a welding inspector. He had worked at G.E. until they closed.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1965 to 1968 during Vietnam, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of AMVETS Post 48, Moose Lodge 872 and Sycamore American Legion.
He taught welding at Vanguard Career Center, Sentinel Vocational Center and Owens Technical Institute.
He enjoyed being outdoors, especially golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, mushroom hunting and traveling.
His funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A rosary is to be prayed 15 minutes prior to Mass.
Burial is at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
Friends may visit with the family 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424.
