Woman reports two men attack her inside residence

POSTED: September 27, 2008

Law enforcement officials are searching for two men who broke into a West US 224 residence and attacked a woman early Thursday morning.

According to a report from the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, a 4000-block West US 224 woman reported after coming home around 12:30 a.m., she was grabbed by someone inside of her home.

She fought the attacker, and then was struck with an object and her hands were bound, the report states.

The woman said she heard two males talking inside the residence, which she reported was dark, and stated they were wearing ski masks and dark clothing.

The men left the residence after being scared off, Seneca County Sheriff's Capt. Bill Eckelberry said Friday.

Eckelberry said the woman managed to untie herself but was afraid to leave the residence because she was unaware of the location of the intruders.

While in the residence, Eckelberry said the woman hit the alarm button on her car kiosk several times, but neighbors did not respond.

The woman left the residence and drove to a relative's house, Eckelberry said, where according to the report, the sheriff's office was contacted just before 6:30 a.m.

According to the report, the men had gained entry into the residence by breaking out a window to a door that led into the kitchen.

From there, they reached in and unlocked the door.

Items had been gathered by the front door and the woman's purse also had been used to gather items from the bedroom, according to the report, but nothing was believed to be missing from the residence.

Evidence was taken at the scene, Eckelberry said, and has been sent to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.

Eckelberry said he does not believe this incident is related to the other recent attacks reported in Tiffin and said charges for the intruders will include burglary and abduction.

Anyone with information or anyone who may have seen a suspicious vehicle in the area around the time of the incident is asked to contact Eckelberry at the Sheriff's Office at (419) 448-5101 or dispatch at (419) 447-3456.
