Tiffin woman in critical condition after accident
By Jill Gosche, jgosche@advertiser-tribune.comA Tiffin woman was listed in critical condition after an accident at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, a State Highway Patrol trooper said Sunday evening.
Trooper Nathan Henn of the Fremont Post of the State Highway Patrol said Louise A. Scaife, 66, 256 W. Crestview Lane, was transported by Life Flight to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo from the scene of an accident at US 6 and SR 590. She was listed in critical condition, he said.
Henn said Scaife was driving a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country southbound on SR 590 and failed to stop at a stop sign. She was struck by a 2001 Ford Focus driven by Denice A. Walker, 36, Laura, Ohio, which was westbound on US 6. Both vehicles rotated off the southwest corner of the intersection, he said.
Henn said Scaife's vehicle struck two traffic signs. She was trapped in the vehicle, and the rescue crew used the Jaws of Life to free her, he said.
Henn said Walker's vehicle struck a ditch and caught fire. Walker was taken by Sandusky County Life Squad to Fremont Memorial Hospital and had non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
The trooper said both drivers were wearing their seat belts, and both airbags deployed. The State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office, the Helena Volunteer Fire Department, two Sandusky County Life Squads and Life Flight, he said.
Citations are pending, he said.
