Candace R. Young, 59, of North Broadway Street, Green Springs, passed away after a valiant fight, Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 27, 1949, She was the daughter of Polly (Beatty) Freeland and Ken Freeland of Galesburg, Mich., and Charles Hendricks of Bellville. Candace was a 1967 graduate of Snider High School in Ft. Wayne, Ind. and had maintained her cosmetology license since 1974. She married Bill Young, June 28, 1975, in Mansfield, and he survives.
Candace is survived by her husband, Bill, Green Springs; two daughters, Shana Young, Sandusky, and Darcy Young, Green Springs; two fathers, Kenneth Freeland, Galesburg, Mich., and Charles Hendricks, Bellville; two sisters, Rebecca (Andy) Zoll, Belleville and Stacey (Tim) Clancy, Richland, Mich.; a brother, Kenneth "Chip" Freeland, Galesburg, Mich.; mother- and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Young, New Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents and mother.
Candace enjoyed several careers in life, all focused on her love of creativity and knowledge. In one of her first endeavors, she served the community of Green Springs as a librarian at the public library. A consistent presence in the community, Candace previously served as the president of the Green Springs Elementary PTO.
Later in life, Candace found joy as a demonstrator for Stampin Up! Rubber Stamping, where she could help share her love of art and express her caring spirit through the creation of custom greeting cards and decorations. She was a member of Buckeye Stampers and received numerous awards at various stamp conventions. She also enjoyed her Christmas displays which received recognition from the Village of Green Springs.
Candace was also a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fremont. She was active with her church serving on numerous committees and always looked forward to fellowship with the prayer group and the congregation. She was a founder of St. Paul's Infant Comfort Station at the Sandusky County Fair. Candace attended the Ohio Episcopal Cursillo No.11.
Even while battling cancer, just nine weeks ago, Candace was with her family at her mother's bedside to witness her mother's last moments.
Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 206 N. Park Ave., Fremont.
Her memorial service is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at the church, with the Rev. Daniel Orr officiating. Entombment is to take place at St. Paul's Columbarium.
