Semi loses control

May 6, 2008
The Advertiser-Tribune
ATTICA — A semi truck accident caused extensive damage to West Tiffin Street around 9:45 a.m. Saturday, sending hydraulic fluid and diesel fuel down the street and into nearby yards, according to a release from the Attica Police Department.

The accident occurred after Steven D. Cotter, 23, of Galion, fell asleep and drove his 1998 Kenworth truck off the right side of the road, striking a power pole and tearing down numerous power lines, the release stated. Cotter’s truck completely pulled a pole out of the ground and damaged an underground storm sewer line, the release stated.

The pole continued to strike two mailboxes and finally came to rest 163 feet later before the top portion of the pole struck the front porch of a nearby residence. The truck’s hydraulic and diesel tanks also were ruptured in the accident, according to the release

The Attica Fire Department, the EPA and Seneca County EMA/Hazmat personnel responded to the accident. Cotter was cited with failure to control.
