I would like to express my concerns about the courthouse of Tiffin. In my opinion, the courthouse has served its purpose since 1884. Though it is sad to see such a historic landmark face its upcoming demolition, unfortunately, the voters of Seneca County have rejected the tax levy needed to save it. Because of the state of our economy, especially in Seneca County, the citizens just cannot afford to rebuild the building in its rundown condition. Had previous county administrators maintained the building, it might not have needed such extensive repairs and possibly could have been saved. Because the majority of the voters rejected the tax levy, the building now must come down. I feel we could buy a lot of electronic storage for documents said to need warehousing for a portion of the cost of reviving this old building. The new courthouse annex built within the last 10 years can continue to serve this area until the economic state of our county can afford otherwise.
