The Columbian High School freshman cheerleaders competed at Ohio State University on Feb. 3. The team won first place in the freshman mount division. Also, Katie Lonsbury placed third out of 10 competitors in the individual junior non-tumbling division. The coach is Heidi Vanover. The cheerleaders are Lonsbury, Olivia Riedy, Chelsea Puesey, Tori Watson, Danielle Huffman, Gwen Francis, Tiffiny Huffman, Renee Wise, Hailey Chaffin and Autumn Stalsworth.



The Columbian girls junior varsity basketball team completed a 20-0 season with a victory over Upper Sandusky. The season was a three-peat for the team with securing an Northern Ohio League championship. A highlight from the season was winning the championship trophy at the Vicki Mauk Holiday Tournament in Elida for the first time in team history. Coach Katie Fazekas credits the year's success to her team's focus and commitment to never being satisfied.



BETTSVILLE -- Students of the Second Quarter at Bettsville High School are Jessica Rhoads, Alyssa Dymond, Lauren Stump, Philip Kohlenberg, Ryan Hartsel, Andrew Hartsel, Julia Alt, Tyler Harrison and Bridget Roemelon.

Students of the Month for January for the Bettsville Local School District are Taylor Ellis, Nicole Fry, Kailyn Wohlgamuth, Kaylee Bear, Savannah Bisson, Samantha Hartsel, Morgan Stump, Breese Reidling, J.J. Hunt, Gregory Simpkins and Chad Easterday.

FINDLAY -- Jaclyn Hilborn, a senior middle childhood education major at the University of Findlay, has been selected as a student teacher with Tiffin Middle School. Hilborn is teaching eighth-grade science there.

A 2002 graduate of Mohawk High School, Hilborn is the daughter of Brenda Feasel of McCutchenville, and Ted and Deb Hilborn of Tiffin.



FOSTORIA -- Parent-teacher conferences for the purpose of looking at grades are to be 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday and Feb. 26 at Fostoria Middle School.

The conferences are 30-minute blocks and student-led. Teachers are to be available throughout the conference to answer questions and discuss any parental concerns.

Parents may schedule conferences by calling (419) 436-4120. They also can make appointments at alternative times, if necessary.



Lakota Junior High School's January Students of the Month are Danica Shuck, Aaron Reasor, Ashley Warren and Matt Rieff. This award is designated to those pupils who exhibit positive attitudes, consideration, respect, the desire to succeed and friendliness.

Shuck, a seventh-grader, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Shuck. Reasor, a seventh-grader, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Reasor.

Rieff, an eighth-grader, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Sting. Warren, an eighth-grader, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Warren.



KANSAS -- Lakota High School is to have a meeting 6-7 p.m. Feb. 27 in the cafeteria for post-secondary enrollment options. The meeting is mandated by the state for every student and their parent/guardian who are interested in PSEO next school year. All Tech Prep students and their parents/guardians also are required to attend. For more information, call (419) 986-5161.



SYCAMORE -- Twelve members of Mohawk FFA received their chapter degrees at the annual Wyandot County Chapter Degree Ceremony at the Ridge Chapel in Carey. The evening started with a welcome presented by Susan Daniel of the Mohawk FFA Chapter, who also introduced the acting officers for the night.

After a the meal, the members received their chapter degree, and a brief presentation was given by Jason Weatherholtz, a former member of the Riverdale FFA chapter, who spoke of his experiences on a combining crew in the Midwest last summer.

The members from Mohawk who received their chapter degree were Jill Daniel, Ellen Gilliland, Kirsten Shellhouse, Jacquie Wise, Charlie Frankart, Josh O'Flaherty, Greg Pennington, Dan Heilman, Devan Smith, Cory Frankart, Ira Kuenzli and Niki Elchert.



SYCAMORE -- Mohawk FFA members competed in the Sub-District Job Interview contest at Liberty Benton High School. Students who attended were Brooke Cox, Susan Daniel and Alex Colich. Cox placed first in the senior division, while Daniel placed fifth in the junior division and Colich placed third in the freshman contest area. Cox is to move on to the district contest at Mohawk Local Schools.



SYCAMORE -- The Mohawk Local School District is to host “A Mohawk Moment,” which is a free breakfast for senior citizens, 9 a.m. Thursday. People can park at the Community Center in Sycamore, board the waiting school bus by 8:45 a.m. and be delivered to the high schoolÕs main entrance. Parking is limited at the high school. Sentinel Career Center's Students of the Month for January are Jessica Hade, Jennifer Jordan and Kylie Stout.

Selection was based on performance in their career programs, citizenship and involvement in youth group activities. These students represented Sentinel and their career programs at the weekly meetings of the Tiffin Rotary and Tiffin Kiwanis organizations.

Jordan, Public Safety senior from Columbian High School, is a Rotary Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Terri Johnson of Tiffin.

Stout, Careers in Education senior, attends Columbian and is a Rotary Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Mike and Cindi Stout of Tiffin.

Hade, Kiwanis Student of the Month, is a junior in the Careers in Education program and attends Columbian. She is the daughter of Martha Hade and Michael Hade of Tiffin.



BLOOMVILLE -- Pupils with perfect attendance for the second quarter at Buckeye North Elementary School are Aaron Brown, kindergarten; Anthony Cooley and Grant Shook, first grade; Trent Craft, Johnathan Hedges, Knycalus Ledesma, Megan McCoy and Matt Sheward, third grade; Logan Hickman, Cody Roberts, Jaret Shook and Daniel Snyder, fourth grade; Dusty Green, Adam Knowlton and Natalie Dentinger, fifth grade; and Kelsey Stander, sixth grade.
