Ivan N. Frankart
Ivan “Tubby” Nicholas Frankart, 68, of 131 Mason St., Broadway, Va., died Nov. 9, 2007, at his home after a very short battle with pancreatic cancer. Tubby died with his family and loved ones surrounding him.
Mr. Frankart was born Aug. 22, 1939, in New Riegel and was the son of the late Edmund Frankart and Lenora (Wagner) Frankart.
Tubby was a resident of New Riegel and Attica until he moved to Harrisonburg, Va., in 1980. He was a fireman with the New Riegel Fire Department, worked as an orderly at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin and drove truck for a feed mill prior to joining RR Donnelley in 1964. Beginning in October of 1964, Tubby worked as a journeyman operator with RR Donnelley and Sons at the Willard plant. Mr. Frankart also owned and operated Frankart’s Lawn and Garden Shop in Attica, along with his wife and five daughters. In addition to owning his business and working with RR Donnelley, Tubby was an avid farmer. In May of 1980, Tubby and his family moved to Harrisonburg, where he worked at the Harrisonburg RR Donnelley plant until his retirement. Tubby was a member of the Harrisonburg plant’s start-up team. He was a master craftsman of print and bind and enjoyed being a mentor to many young men and women of the Shenandoah Valley at RRD for many years. He loved his job, and the people he worked with, and spoke of his memories with them daily until his passing.
Mr. Frankart was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Harrisburg.
On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Marjorie Ann Huffman, who survives.
Other survivors include his five daughters, Betty (Steve) Haver of Willard, Helen (Jim) Smith of Mt. Jackson, Va., Connie (Mike) Shoemaker of Bridgewater, Va., Ellie (Greg) Nesselrodt of Broadway, Va., and Loretta (Eric “Griff”) Griffin of Broadway, Va.; a former son-in-law and friend, Russell Mason Sr. of Timberville, Va.; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Jan) Haver of Attica, Russell (Katie Pascarella-) Mason Jr. of Marysville, Pa., Debbie Haver of Willard, Emily Mason and companion Geoff Reichley of Timberville, Va., Joshua Raymond of Norfolk, Va., Nicole Nesselrodt and companion Philip Sheets Jr., Aaron Nesselrodt and Clair Griffin, all of Broadway; and three great-grandchildren, Cameron Haver of Willard and Madeline and Jonathon Haver of Attica. Mr. Frankart is also survived by three brothers, Donnie (Becky) Frankart and Tony (Karen) Frankart of Bloomville and Gene (Carol) Frankart of Attica; two sisters, Sarah Wurm and Susan (Rich) Roth of Attica; a sister-in-law and friend, Lois Frankart of Bloomville; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Frankart was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilfred “Billy” Frankart, Edmund “Butch” Frankart, Michael “Mike” Frankart and Nicholas Ivan “Nick” Frankart, all of Ohio.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. A vigil will begin at 7:35 p.m.
The Rev. Tony Marques will conduct a memorial Mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Harrisonburg at 11 a.m Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007. Burial will immediately follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
At his request, Mr. Frankart has been cremated.
Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway is in charge of arrangements.
