Calvert makes Top 50
By Jill Gosche, jgosche@advertiser-tribune.comCalvert High School again is listed among the nation’s Top 50 Catholic high schools through the Catholic High School Honor Roll.
Calvert — which also made the list in 2004 — and Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon are the lone Ohio selections.
“It’s a great honor,” said Calvert Catholic Schools Superintendent Ted Rombach. “Truly, it’s a community award for all our parents, all our teachers and everybody involved. It does a lot for our school system. … It truly is, it’s a great honor.”
Principal Tony Mass said Catholic Calvert Schools administrators feel the schools are doing a good job, and it’s nice to have an organization — especially on the national level — recognize they’re doing what they’re supposed to be doing.
The honor roll listing also honors schools for academics, Catholic identity and civic education. Calvert is among the top 25 schools in the Catholic identity category for the second-straight year.
“That’s really special to have two honors,” Mass said. “That whole thing is a tribute to the partnership that we have with our stakeholders. It’s a tribute to our staff and students and parents.”
The Acton Institute, a research and educational organization, oversees the selection process. Its Web site states the country has nearly 1,300 Catholic high schools, and all could apply for the honor by completing a trio of surveys.
“I couldn’t be any happier about hearing about these two awards,” Rombach stated in an e-mail. “These two awards reflect the value system of all the Calvert Catholic Schools.”
