Tiffin Kiwanis Club donated money for the children’s area in the emergency care center. Children can climb through the circular openings in the walls and admire the colorful shapes. The kid-friendly decorative themes are repeated in two exam rooms in the emergency care center — one is seen above — lending a familiar feel to the atmosphere.
Mercy Hospital of Tiffin officially moved to its new building July 27, 2008. Prior to the move, about 3,000 area residents toured the facility during the community open house and another 500 invited guests attended at other times, according to figures from the hospital. Charles Ervin, director of facility and support operations, said moving day was an experience he never will forget. He called it “rewarding” to see all the planning and preparation pay off in a smooth move from Market Street to St. Lawrence Drive. Ervin said the hospital actually was able to relocate a month sooner than was anticipated, saving some money in the process. Some additional signage is being planned for the entrances and some of the hallways, Ervin said. Most employees and volunteers have learned their way around the new building. Some have started wearing pedometers to keep track of the extra steps they make each day in their larger quarters. The move has saved steps for others, such as Karen Stuckey.
