Five students from Sentinel Career Center are preparing to make strong finishes at the national SkillsUSA competition June 22-28 in Kansas City. Their scores at the state competition, which was April 25-26, allowed them to move on to the national contest.
Tim Bouillon, a senior at New Riegel High School, placed first in the state SkillsUSA collision repair competition, and Jason Perkins, a senior at Columbian High School, placed first in the state SkillsUSA job skills demonstration contest.
Kim Lonsbury and Jessica Wilkinson, seniors at Columbian, and Andy Alt, a junior at New Riegel, make up the community service team. Although the team placed fourth at the state competition, it earned enough points to compete at the national contest.
Carl Rusch, automobile collision instructor, said Perkins is the first Sentinel student to place first in the job skills demonstration contest.
“It means a lot,” Perkins said.
