Cancer benefit brings the rock

A group of rock ‘n’ rollers from Fremont is inviting music lovers to a special rock concert at 7 p.m. July 10 at The Ritz Theatre in Tiffin. Led by George Vastas Jr., the team of rockersrockin.com took part in the Sandusky County Relay for Life last month to benefit the American Cancer Society. The relay itself at Connor Park was plagued by heavy rain and storms. Vastas said his own tent was wrapped around a tree during the night, but the event has raised $152,000 thus far. He is hoping to add to that total with proceeds from the Tiffin concert. Calling himself “the mind behind the madness,” Vastas said he participated in his first Relay for Life in 2008. After that, he decided to form his own team with its own Web site, www.rockersrockin.com. “I decided to go with things I know, and that is rock and roll and the Internet,” Vastas said. “We have all known people who had cancer.
