| | Chilly perspectiveFebruary 10, 2011 - Rob WeaverThe recommended temperature inside a commercial walk-in cooler is 35-41 degrees Fahrenheit. The optimal temperature for a household refrigerator is 35 degrees. Commercial walk-in freezers should be kept colder than 28 degrees. Household freezers -- chest or upright -- typically keep contents at 0 degrees. The average February temperature in International Falls, Minn. -- known as "the nation's icebox" -- is 11 degrees. The average low temperature there this time of year is minus 0.7 degrees. The temperature outside when I awoke this morning was 6 below zero. As I write this, WeatherBug informs me the current temperature dropped from minus 1 to minus 2. We have an icebox in the garage at our house. Perhaps I'll unplug it today and conserve energy.
