Muskingum women v. Heidelberg
January 29, 2011 - Zach Baker
We start with a little history, as Clyde graduate Jenny Miller's stickback gives her 1,000 points in her career at Heidelberg. Miller may have been the best women's player at HU since the moment she arrived on campus. Muskingum leads, 8-2, after a pair of 3s with 17:38 to go in the first half.
Amanda Dobbins hits a 3 from the right wing, Muskingum's fourth of the first five minutes, and the Muskies lead HU, 16-7 with 15:32 left. Right now Heidelberg is giving them the 3, and the Muskies are hitting.
It's not looking good for the home team, as HU is down 24-9 at the 12:58 mark. Heidelberg gets looks, but misses, which has kind of been the story of things so far.
Even when Muskingum coach Beth Fox is questioning officials, she does it with a smile on her face. That tells you how things have been going so far for her team. Muskingum leads, 32-9, with 10:24 left. Heidelberg is turning the ball over at an alarming rate.
Muskingum has made something like 50 3's, and the Muskies lead, 44-19, though Miller has spearheaded a bit of a run, cutting the lead to 44-19. It's 46-19 now with 4:48 left.
This sums up Heidelberg's day so far. Jenny Miller gets a short jumper, misses, grabs the rebound, misses, then Kristen McConkey gets the offensive board, puts up an open layup, that misses, and Muskingum gets the board. Miller has 13 points, but Heidelberg still trails, 50-24 with about a minute left in the half.
At the half, it's 50-27 Muskingum.
Heidelberg is down, 63-36, with 14:43 left. Kathleen Phillips has scored 14 points to lead HU.
Kathleen Phillips has 19 points,, but Heidelberg is still down 77-53 with 4:19 left. Jasmine Shaw, who was solid on the track team and just joined the basketball team this year, has been impressive. She has four points but has been very active on defense and had a steal and layup.
