SVSU women vs. TU

January 27, 2011 - Zach Baker
A Mandy Jaeb floater is all the Dragons have to show for the game's first five minutes. They trail the Cardinals, 12-2. 14:53.

Jaeb hits another short jumper, cutting SVSU's edge to six with 9:33 to go. Aysha Boston has 5 for the Cards. 16-10, 9:33

Simply put, the Dragons are missing shots they usually make, and as a result are down, 20-14, with 4:11 to go in the half. TU has had halfs like this, but the good news is it's still in it.

TU trails, 25-18 at the half, making just 9 of 29 shots from the floor.

Tiffin has made just one shot in the first five-and-a-half minutes of the second half, and trails, 33-20. It's getting to the point where one is tempted to write it off as one of those games where TU just doesn't shoot well.

TU is missing shot after shot. This is TU's second straight game against a losing team. It lost Saturday. The Dragons came into this game with a winning GLIAC record, but trail the 3-7 Cardinals by 14, 38-24, with 9:43 to go.

Melissa Gilliland's trey with 6:48 left cuts the Cardinal lead to eight. TU is on a 7-0 run, but it's been mainly defense.

SVSU is throwing the ball away left and right, allowing TU to crawl back in. Baute had an open look at the basket and missed it. That would have cut the lead to two. As it is, it's 38-34. 4:18.

Should point out Jaeb has been on the bench this whole time. But TU had a problem just a moment ago, where the Cardinals missed a free throw, only for Brittany Burkhardt to grab the offensive board, her 14th. It leads to a Cardinal 3. Jessica Harris has a chance to get the lead down to four, but Harris splits at the line. 42-37. 2:24 left. Tiffin is 8-16 from the foul line and missing too many shots. They are down by seven with 1:47 to go.

With a half minute left, TU is down, 47-42, but Focke is at the line. She hits both, but TU is called for an intentional foul with 20-some seconds left. That means two shots and the ball. Kelley Wesp splits, making it 48-44 with 24 seconds left. 22 seconds left and Wesp is fouled again. Looks like a TU loss.
