TU women v. Clarion

November 23, 2010 - Zach Baker
From the Gillmor Center, Tiffin University looks to go 4-0 on the season, facing Clarion.

-Mandy Jaeb's short jumper gives her four, Karli Mast has 5, and TU leads, 9-0 with 15:41 left. TU is aggressive on defense early.

Wirh 14:41 remaining, Dragons lead, 9-3. A left-wing three by Emma Fickel put Clarion on the board after 4 1/2 minutes.

Mast is on fire in the early going, with 13 points. If TU's defense has a weakness, it's that sometimes they leave a player wide open for a wing 3. Clarion hit a pair during a 10-0 run, allowing the Golden Eagles to carawl back to within 10 after being down, 21-3. It's 23-11 with 9:40 to go in the first half.

After TU took a 21-3 lead early, Clarion went on a 19-6 run to close the gap to 27-22. Key has been the 3s, again. Fickel has been left open on the wing a few times, and buried the deep jumpers. It's 33-25, 2:47 left.

It's 39-30 at the half. Clarion has used its outside shooting to keep things close. Mast has 15, but only has one basket outside of her early burst.

Emma Fickel is 4 of 5 from 3's. It's keeping the Golden Eagles in this one.

Just as in the first half, TU opens strong, going on an 11-2 run. Jaeb has scored a couple of baskets, and now is up to 15 points. Just a normal night for her. TU leads, 50-34, 14:50 left in regulation.

With 10 minutes to go, TU leads, 57-41. Couple of key bench contributions from the Dragons. Amanda Baute has 8 points, Melissa Gilliland has seven. But Baute's defensive hustle in the last two games has really made a difference.

Amanda Baute has eight points, seven rebounds and seven steals. TU leads, 66-46 with 4:47 left.
