Where Ya Going This Month

October 6, 2010 - Al Stephenson
If, and that's a big IF, you had the chance to attend one sporting event - anywhere in the world - during the month of October, what would it be? We' ve been playing this game since the first of the year and I have given you my choice each and every month. I'd hate to leave you hanging, so I will once again let you know where you should go. You have the absolute right to disagree with me, if you so desire.

It would be fun to attend a Ryder Cup. The one just completed would have been a chance to see some of the best golfers in the world hit some of the best golf shots you have ever seen. Watching the emotions of these great athletes would have been worth the price of admission. The Ryder Cup would be tempting, but it's not my choice.

A number of mid-season college football matchups would be just as tempting. This weekend's matchup of 5-0 Michigan versus 5-0 Michigan State would be fun. There are some others this month, but again it is a case of close but no cigar.

I could offer you the chance to see Wade, Bosh and The Lying King in preseason action, but if you chose that I would have to consider you somewhat insane. I don't think I'd want to see them during the regular season or in the playoffs, but in a meaningless preseason contest? No way. I'm glad you feel the same way.

No, this month is October. There is only one choice and that is the Fall Classic. The World Series baby! Getting a seat for Game 7 would be awesome. Being able to watch your favorite team would be an added bonus. Perhaps I will have to wait (and possibly wait, and wait...) to see the Tribe get there again.

The view from my seat suggests that the national past time gets the nod for October. Everything else comes in second or worse (see above reference to The Lying King).
