State Track Day One

June 4, 2010 - Zach Baker

Just after 9 a.m. The 4 x 800 for Division III, which features Seneca East girls, then Mohawk and Seneca East boys, are set to begin in a half hour.

It's dry and sunny here, a little warm and muggy but not bad at all.

In the 4 x 800 girls race, Seneca East placed 10th, as Jessica Phillips moved the Tigers up a couple notches in the last leg. The team of Brittany Stockmaster, Michala Shade, Brecka Szabo and Phillips finished in 9:51.67.

In the boys version, the surprise team, perhaps of the race, was Mohawk. The Warriors' team Kyle Parker, Craig Parker, Levi Edington and Drew Trusty broke a school record and finished fourth in 8:00.4

Those guys were excited after crossing the line, and with good reason. They came in with the 12th-best time.

Seneca East finished 11th in 8:08.9

St. Wendelin's Jaunna Gase and Seneca East's Taylor Ruffing each qualified for tomorrow's finals in the 100 hurdles.

Lakota's Roger Guerra qualified for tomorrow's 100.

Aaron Schalk finished eighth in his heat, and the New Riegel senior missed out on the 400 finals.

Guerra qualified in the 200.

Katie Depinet placed ninth in the discus. She's the first Seneca East discus thrower to reach state. She threw 122-5.

Guerra jumped 6-5 in the high jump, placing fourth, and jumped 21-11 1/4 in the long jump and placed fourth in each event.

Dillon Rickard, of St. Wendelin, finished 11th (50-0 3/4) finished 11th in the shot.

Carey's Morgan Wentling cleared 10 feet in the pole vault, placing 14th. Carey'sDana Newell tied for 12 in the high jump, clearing 5-0.
