Versus vs. ABC
April 15, 2010 - Rob Weaver
By reader request, there will be a change to our TV Update beginning Saturday. Versus network will be added to our grid-like television listings in the weekly booklet. The daily grid will not change.
Versus -- formerly Outdoor Life Network -- is televising 12 Indy Racing League events this season. ABC has the other five, including the series' namesake Indianapolis 500.
But the Indy 500 is the only race for which ABC plans to broadcast qualifying. (By the way, IRL has thrown a wrinkle in qualifying for the first three rows for that race). Versus, however, plans to cover qualifying at events it telecasts, including this weekend's race in Long Beach. Watch for qualifying at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Versus also is to cover the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course near Lexington. But i'd recommend making the roughly 60-mile trip to the road course to attend in person.
On the cable system I have at home, Versus is right next to Speed Channel, which carries Formula One racing (albeit at some odd hours of the monring) and my favorite, MotoGP. In fact, my right thumb got a workout last weekend switching between qualifying for the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama and motorcycle racing. Hey, I had gotten the yard work done; it was time for a break.
